What is assessed in smile design?
A beautiful smile is not just white teeth; what matters is how the teeth relate to the face, the lips and each other. The following elements are considered together during planning.
- The length and width of the teeth and their proportions to each other
- Shade and how it suits your skin tone
- How much gum shows when you smile, and symmetry
- Lip line and facial features
- Bite and chewing pattern
What are digital planning and a trial smile (mock-up)?
Digital planning based on photographs and measurements gives a preview of your new smile before treatment begins, so the intended result becomes tangible.
Where suitable, the design is tried directly on your teeth using a temporary material. With this trial you can see yourself in the mirror and share any changes you would like before any permanent work is done.
The trial is a practical way of making the decision together: requests such as making the teeth slightly shorter, softening the corners or changing the shade are easy to discuss at this stage. That way, the result will not come as a surprise.
Which treatments are used in smile design?
Depending on your needs, the plan may combine one or more treatments: chief among them are teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, zirconia crowns and reshaping with tooth-coloured fillings. If orthodontics is needed to align the teeth, the plan is made together with Dt. Büşra Kibar Ateş from our team.
All treatments are based on high-quality, certified materials and careful craftsmanship.
A healthy foundation first
Before any cosmetic steps, decay, gum problems and other treatment needs are addressed. A design built on a healthy foundation gives longer-lasting satisfaction in terms of both appearance and comfort.
Smile design can be considered for anyone unhappy with the colour, shape or spacing of their teeth, or with how old fillings and crowns look. Which steps are needed, and in what order, is explained to you clearly after the examination.

Frequently asked questions
How many sessions does smile design take?
It depends on the treatments included in the plan. Plans involving veneers or zirconia crowns usually take several sessions over a few weeks because of the laboratory stage. Your personal timeline is decided after the examination.
Does smile design look natural?
Because planning is based on your facial features, lip line and skin tone, the aim is a natural look. At the trial stage you can see the result in advance and give your opinion.
Do teeth have to be filed down for smile design?
Not always; it depends on the treatment chosen. Whitening and reshaping with fillings remove no or very little tooth structure, veneers usually need limited preparation, and zirconia crowns need more.
Are smile design and veneers the same thing?
No. Smile design is the name of the overall planning process; porcelain veneers are just one of the treatments that may be used in the plan.
