Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic (aesthetic) dentistry is the general name for treatments that aim to improve the appearance of teeth while preserving their healthy function. At our practice in Pangaltı, Şişli, these treatments are planned and carried out by Dt. Ömer Albayrak. Which method suits you is decided together with you after an examination.

Which treatments does cosmetic dentistry include?

Each treatment has a different purpose and a different effect on the tooth. You can find more detailed information on each of the following options on its own page.

  • Smile design: planning your smile as a whole
  • Porcelain veneers: thin porcelain shells bonded to the front surface of the teeth
  • Zirconia crowns: metal-free crowns that cover the whole tooth
  • Teeth whitening: lightening the colour of the teeth without removing tooth structure
  • Cosmetic fillings: repairing small chips and gaps with tooth-coloured material

Which concerns is it used for?

Cosmetic treatments are often planned around a person's general dissatisfaction with their smile rather than a single problem. Sometimes a small adjustment to a filling is enough; sometimes several treatments need to be planned together. Common situations include the following.

  • Yellowed or stained teeth
  • Chipped, worn or shortened tooth edges
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Old fillings and crowns that no longer match in colour
  • Differences in tooth length and shape

Health first, then aesthetics

A lasting cosmetic result is built on healthy teeth and gums. So if there is decay, gum inflammation or a tooth that needs root canal treatment, these are treated before the cosmetic stage.

At our practice we work with high-quality, certified materials and careful craftsmanship, and every step is explained to you in advance. Treatment options are explained together with their advantages and limitations; the decision is always made together with you.

How do we aim for a natural look?

The colour, shape and length of the teeth are chosen to suit your face, your lips and your existing teeth. The aim is not an exaggerated result, but one that looks like your own.

For example, a very white shade does not suit every face equally; the shade is chosen in daylight, taking into account the tone of your teeth and skin. Where possible, options that remove less tooth structure take priority.

If you would like a comprehensive plan covering more than one treatment, you can read how the process works on our smile design page.

Frequently asked questions

Is cosmetic dental treatment permanent?

Cosmetic restorations can be used for many years, but no treatment lasts forever. How long they last depends on oral care, eating habits and regular check-ups.

Are veneers or zirconia crowns more suitable?

That depends on the current condition of your tooth. For changing the colour and shape of sound teeth, veneers are often chosen; for teeth with significant loss of structure or that have had root canal treatment, zirconia crowns are usually preferred.

Is cosmetic dental treatment painful?

Most cosmetic procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic or without needing anaesthetic, and you usually feel no significant pain during the procedure. There may be mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards.

Do I need a scale and polish before cosmetic treatment?

In most cases, yes. Clean, healthy gums help ensure that the shade is chosen correctly and that the restorations fit well.
