Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are an aesthetic treatment using thin porcelain shells bonded to the front surface of the teeth. They are used for problems with colour, shape and small gaps, usually with only limited removal of tooth structure. At our practice in Pangaltı, veneer treatment is planned and carried out by Dt. Ömer Albayrak.

Who are veneers suitable for?

Veneers are an option to consider for people whose teeth are largely sound but who are unhappy with how they look. They can be placed on a single tooth or planned for several teeth along the smile line.

  • Discolouration that does not lighten with whitening
  • Small chips and worn tooth edges
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Slightly uneven teeth that do not need orthodontics
  • Differences in tooth length and shape

Who may they not be suitable for?

Veneers may not always be the right choice where there is severe teeth clenching or grinding, not enough tooth structure, or untreated gum disease. In these cases, the underlying problem is addressed first, or a different option such as a zirconia crown is considered.

For teeth with only a colour problem, whitening is often recommended first, because it may be possible to achieve the desired result without removing any tooth structure.

How much tooth structure is removed?

In most cases, preparation for veneers stays within limited depth in the enamel, the outer layer of the tooth. In some cases it may be possible to place veneers with very little or no preparation; this is decided after examination and planning.

Veneers are made from high-quality, certified materials with careful craftsmanship, and their colour and shape are chosen to match your neighbouring teeth.

Caring for veneers

Veneers are brushed and flossed just like natural teeth. Not biting hard objects such as pens, ice or seeds with your front teeth, and wearing a night guard if you clench your teeth at night, help them last longer.

Check-ups every six months allow the fit of the veneer edges and the health of your gums to be monitored, so that any small problems are spotted early.

How does the treatment work?

  1. Examination and planningWe assess whether your teeth are suitable and discuss the colour and shape you would like.
  2. Trial smileWhere suitable, the new look is tried on your teeth with a temporary material.
  3. Preparation and impressionsThe teeth are prepared as much as necessary, impressions are taken and temporary veneers are fitted if needed.
  4. BondingThe veneers made in the laboratory are tried in and, once the fit is approved, bonded to the teeth.
  5. Check-upThe bite and the fit with the gums are checked, and we share advice on aftercare.

Frequently asked questions

Will veneers damage my teeth?

When used for the right reasons and with careful preparation, veneers usually remove only a limited amount of tooth structure. However, where the tooth is prepared, the procedure is irreversible, so the decision is made together after an examination.

How long do veneers last?

With good care, veneers can be used for many years. How long they last depends on oral hygiene, teeth clenching habits and regular check-ups.

How many sessions do veneers take?

In most cases they are completed in two to three sessions. Because of the laboratory stage, the process usually takes one to two weeks.

Do veneers change colour over time?

Porcelain is resistant to staining and in most cases keeps its colour. Regular brushing and check-ups are important to keep the edges clean.
